Someone kindly found the person below for me who I think MAY be my ancestor Emma Ann PRIST nee Shimmon. Can someone tell me if there are any other details, other family, or her husbands occupation etc, as I am also trying to find her husband William who was a fisherman. The surname has been transcibed wrong a few times on the records.Shows as Priest on one census and on this 1 below as Prest.She is listed as a Fisherman's wife on this 1 and has her children with her.Dan,fisherman are really hard to find on census records and quite often you don't locate them at all.

Yes that is her with her children. Her husband William PRIEST drowned at sea in jan 1863. I have not been able to find WIlliam on a census so not sure where he was born.

Does any one know if someone drowns at sea if they will have a death cert issued?

If you send for the marriage cert that would show age at marriage and also his father's name.If you are lucky a sibling witness!

On a memorial card I have for William's death it say he was 34 years old when he died in Jan 1863 so born c1829 and on his marriage cert it does not show an age only 'adult' and the witnesses dont appear to be relations they are George Berry and Charlotte Walker.


I see on FreeBMD there is a death listed as William Henry Taylor PRIEST in Jan QTR 1863 in Sheffield. I wonder if he was fishing up north if his death was registed in the nearest county? Can anyone find a William Priest in Essex in the 1841?

Sorry Rose, I wish I knew. On his marriage cert there are no details shown on for his father only that he is deceased. but I beleive he may have been a fisherman.

Priest is my maiden name and is very frustrating that I cannot get past William Priest c1829 - have you got any suggestions of what else I might try?
