i just do not understand how some one can be missed off two censuses.?

A freind looked at the 1911 with some spare credit and told us about yorkshire

Frances and her husband are on the 1911 census with a child Thomas 3 months, her name spelt Francis so if you viewed that maybe it would give you more details.

What makes you think she was born in Sheffield?

There doesn't appear to be a birth reg in Sheffield for the years you mention, 1888/89, on Free BMD.

Was the daughter legitimate?

If so, look for the marriage of her parents.................if you get the cert, you will find out the name of Frances's father.

from her daughter ,Who did not know her to well as she was brought up by a aunt on her dads side.
