Thank you all for your help. Im going to get the birth certificate for Charles William Allen Stevens and his parents marriage cert ificate and see where it leads me.

Ah, classic. Born before marriage, father's surname given as a middle name.

I think he's on the IGI as Charles William Allen STEVENS 1869 Fordingbridge,mother Harriet Jane Stevens. She marries William in Kensington 1875.
Charles is on the 1871 in Fordingbridge with grandparents Stephen and Martha STEVENS.

The Bitton should be Bitterne. It is a suburb about 3 miles east of Southampton city centre.

It was spelt Bickton on the 1901 census but Bicton on the 1911 census. Thats all i know.

Birth registration was not compulsory until 1875

PLEASEEEEEE can someone help me find the birth details of a Charles William Allen. I only know that he was born about 1870 hampshire, bicton. I found the family on the 1881 census and their surname was spelt Allan, but ive been unable to find any birth details with both spellings. Any help would be much appreciated.
