Hi Brenda/Ann

I've done some checking on Katharine Beath.

There is 2 births recorded in Strathmiglo, Fife - Father (1) William and father (2) David.

When I look for marriages in Strathmiglo for Beath between 1725 and 1740, there are 3.
(1) William Beath and Bethea Balvaird (this is interesting as the name Bethie/Bethea appears throughout my tree)
(2) David Beath and Ann Wilsom

Both had daughters Katharine Beath.....do I make an assumption that William (1) is the one I am looking for based on the continued use of the name Bethia down the line??

I've just done some tracing back of the Beath family in my other tree.

Most direct Beath's were born in Kinross area during 1790 - 1840.
I've gone a little further back to 1740 - 1770 and find that they have originated in Kinglassie, Fife.

Your find in respect to the second marriage date for Katharine Beath, Strathmiglo, Fife may well tie in to the beath family line I have in my direct family tree.

I'll keep digging and see what turns up.

Interesting you find the name Beath.

I have the Beath name in my direct family tree, which is linked to Henderson.

In this tree (my adoptive family), Kilgour has also been linked to Henderson.

All in the same area, so there is a possibility my direct family and adoptive family are linked somewhere.

Thanks so much for the information.

I must have missed the birth record you located, Brenda. I'd done a fairly wide search based on the census in 1861 which had Margaret's age as 57.
As it turns out she must have been about 67 at that time. Her death cert in 1867 has her age as 70, which also head me in the "wrong" direction date wise.

Ann, thanks for the additional detail on Laurence. This is most helpful and adds another few names to the tree.

Hello everyone,
Another year past and still working on this tree.

Am looking for some advice on finding Margaret Kilgour birth.

The details I have discovered so far are:

Located names from marriage cert for Bethia Scott and John Rollo 24.03.1879.
Margaret married George Scott 05.12.1828 in Kettle, Fife.

Margaret Scott (nee Kilgour) death Certificate (1867) reflects parents as Lawrence (Laurence Kilgowr) Kilgour and Bethia Myles.

There is no birth record for a Margaret Kilgour with parents Laurence/Lawrence or Bethia. Only 2 birth records (James and Bathia).
Census 1861 in Collessie under George Scott indicated Margaret born in Kettle. Based on Census 1861 "age" (57), there is NO birth recorded from 1795 to 1805 in Kettle.

If anyone is able to offer some advice on how to locate Margaret's birth so that I can verify parents, it would be very much appreciated.
