Hello,
I'm having difficulty tracing the steps of John Reuben Betts born 28th May 1864 in the Kensington District (London/Middlesex) to William Betts and Sarah Apps.
I have his birth and baptism record...the only John Reuben Betts there is and I have a marriage record for him. It seems he married in the Plymouth District in Summer 1888 to either Sarah Frost or Amy Edith Gibbings.
I am unable to find any census or deaths records for him, so I'm hoping he travelled overseas with his new wife. If anyone could check it would be much appreciated.
Thank you, Karen

From 49th Battalion War Diaries
The 49th moved off from their rest area at 2pm 2/6/1916. There are some details of their action. They were relieved in line at 2:30am 5/6/1916 and arrived back at their divisional rest area by 7am. The nominal strength of a battalion was abt 1000 men, but I don't know how understrength they were at this time. The result of their action at Sanctuary Wood in the Ypres Salient was 45 OR killed, 257 OR wounded, 69 OR missing. Officer casualties were named with some details given - their figures were 6/8/0.

You can also read of the action in early June in Chapter 5 of Nicholson's Official History. (It's useful to know the 49th Bn was in the 7th Bde of the 3rd Div). http://www.cefresearch.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2145 For the maps, see the old site: http://www.cefresearch.com/matrix/Nicholson/
