There was no harm in asking. :)

Have you tried the electoral rolls on 192.com, or are there too many people of the same name? If you can find a household with the same name as her husband listed, you might be able to narrow it down.

Best place for the details of the unwanted certificate is BMDshare.com. You can also advertise the certificate itself to anyone interested on this site.

from pm from Sheila

Elizabeth's father Thomas was a miner like his brother David

wonder why he was in Liverpool when elizabeth was born - not a place you usually find miners

edit - sorry got confused with Thomas & Elizabeth's - I think I meant Thomas was a miner like his son David

Hi Sheila,

Please do not take this as a criticism but I have been looking 'on and off' all day for an answer to the question I had put on your thread re David - NO new posts from you !

Someone else posted something which made me go back to your first post and I realised you had edited this and added the info I needed on there!

For future reference - people will not always go back to the first post and so will not see the added info.

It may be that you do not know how to add a new message on this 'new' system - if not, what you do is to go to the top of the thread - you will see a purple button which says 'reply'.

Click on this and a box will open for you to type the new info into - then click 'submit'

This will then come up as a new post - it will also bump your thread up to the top of the board again where it will be noticed.

Best regards,

Dea x

Catherine

Catherine Report 5 Jan 2009 11:26

Just as a matter of reference, the Thomas Roberts in this family is noted in 1851 census as being born:-
born: Denbigh, Denbighshire, Wales

Catherine

Catherine Report 5 Jan 2009 11:18

There's also this one in 1845?:-
Births Dec 1845 (99%)
ROBERTS Martha Tasker Liverpool 20 529

The IGI record does seem to fit nicely, maybe they were just late in registering the birth?

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 5 Jan 2009 11:06

It does, Catherine -- Alan just chopped it off when he copied and pasted. ;)

I checked the census myself because I wanted to look at the image to see what it did say for Martha, and the household is this:

Thomas Roberts 37
Elizabeth Roberts 36
Sarah Roberts 13
Ellen Roberts 11
Elizabeth Roberts 9
Martha Roberts 7

... or is it the transcription that's wrong and Alan was fixing it? ... No, it does seem to say 7.

Criss-cross -- no apologies needed, I was thinking the same thing and how nice it would be to have an infant in the household to trace, easier that way, but 'twas not to be.

Catherine

Catherine Report 5 Jan 2009 11:05

Sorry Evie,
Just checked the 1851 census and you are entirely correct, age of Martha is 7yrs. Threw me with it not being on Alan's posting. I stand corrected!!

Catherine

Catherine Report 5 Jan 2009 11:01

Evie,
1851 census doesn't give an age for Martha which I thought meant that she was just months old?
If that is the case then this one would fit:-

Births Dec 1851 (>99%)
ROBERTS Martha Liverpool 20 397

Catherine

Catherine Report 5 Jan 2009 10:54

On IGI there are two marriages, in Liverpool that would fit, but neither are certain of course!:-

THOMAS ROBERTS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Marriage: 19 MAY 1835 Saint Martin, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Spouse: ELIZABETH LONGBOTTOM

and

THOMAS ROBERTS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Marriage: 09 AUG 1836 Saint Johns Old Haymarket, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Spouse: ELIZABETH CROSS

As you know, you need the birth cert. of one of the children to be sure of the mothers maiden name!

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 5 Jan 2009 10:50

If that 1851 household is correct, might you have better luck spotting another child's birth?

There's really only one Martha Roberts born in Liverpool whose DOB is technically correct for being 7 at the time of the 1851 census:

Births Mar 1844
ROBERTS Martha Liverpool 20 435

Although hmm. The only Martha with parents Thomas and Elizabeth in that period in the IGI:

Martha Roberts
Birth: 10 FEB 1845 Saint Martin, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Christening: 19 FEB 1845 St Martin, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Father: Thomas Roberts
Mother: Elizabeth
Batch No.: C161081

Could just be a different one!
