This is the family in 1841............the wife is much older than the 1851 version

Name: Anne Shanga
Age: 45
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1796
Gender: Female
Where born: Gloucestershire, England

Civil Parish: Tetbury
Hundred: Longtree
County/Island: Gloucestershire
Country: England

Registration district: Tetbury
Sub registration district: Tetbury
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
William Shanga 50
Anne Shanga 45
Charles Shanga 20
Henry Shanga 18
John Shanga 16
Susannah Shanga 14
Frances Shanga 10
Ellenor Shanga 8
Anne Shanga 4

I think you may find it worth looking for a death and re-marriage on freebmd....unless the 1851 census has wrong info about Ann's age

But at least it means she wasn't married at the age of 11!!

Ericthered

Ericthered Report 2 Jan 2009 23:17

It is a possibility that Ann Blake was a first wife.............and mother of the children................and that she died, and her widower re-married, coincidentally, to another Ann................a somewhat younger version.

Only speculation, but it may be worth looking at......................

thankyou Mel, what is most disturbing is that charles was born when Ann Blake was 'potentially' only 12 or 13 years old.
i am praying tis is proved wrong and that Ann was born before 1805... it is most distressing to even consider this might have happened.
best wishes to all and thank you all, as always

I know that the marriage age for girls was 12 until the early 20th century...........I didn't realise it had ever been as low as 11

She would have been only 12/13 when this child was born

Ann

I thought the same as you..........but, having re-read the posting, I suspect that the marriage was 1816, not Ann's birth.

It's a punctuation thing!

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 2 Jan 2009 16:18

can you check the dates Debra please. You have stated
William Strange b 1790
Ann Blake b 1816

SON Henry George Owen b 1923

In your previous thread you had Henry George Owen MARRIED in 1911
