Many thanks for all the info, can fill in a few more gaps. I have just come across a death for Henry Thompson of 1904 in Shaftesbury and 1900 for Elizabeth also in Shaftesbury.

Yes, that's the family - Seth was my great grandfather. The daughter Martha had a son (out of wedlock I presume) called Arthur Miles Thompson and I know she went on to marry a chap called Spinney but the son is another mystery, I have found a birth on freebmd of March qtr 1886 but cant' trace a marriage or a death or anything else about him.

An engine driver is something different - most of the family seem to have been farm labourers.

My great great grandfather was a Henry Thompson 1843, born in Somerset and there the story ends. I am having real difficulty finding out much about him. (ie parents and exactly where he was born) He married a Elizabeth Morgan and they lived in Motcombe, Dorset.

I would like to know what his occupation was and if he had any brothers or sisters as the Thompson families that followed were large in number with at least 7 children in them.

Please point me in the right direction someone!!!!!
