Ontario, Canada Marriages, 1857-1924 about Eva Gertrude Harnan Name: Eva Gertrude Harnan Birth Place: Ottawa Age: 21 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1899 Father Name: Michael Harnan Mother Name: Ellen Veley (looks like Ellen but the surname is very faint) Spouse Name: W S Coolin Spouse's Age: 21 Spouse Estimated Birth Year: abt 1899 Spouse Birth Place: Montreal Que Spouse Father Name: Edwin George Coolin Spouse Mother Name: Gertrude Ann Kuzzer Coolin (looks like Ruzzee not Kuzzer) Marriage Date: 28 Dec 1920 Marriage Place: Carleton Marriage County: Carleton Family History Library Microfilm: MS932_536
William Southwall Coolin was an asst paymaster. Eva Gertrude Kearnan was a bookeeper. She was RC and he was Methodist. There is also a stamp stating they divorced 23/4/56. The bride's father was born Halifax, NS and I'm pretty sure the surname is Kearnan not Harnan.

Hi
Can someone look up the birth details of Michael William Southwood Coolin, he may be known as William Southwood Coolin. I think he was born in 1899 and his parents are Edwin George Coolin (Canadian) and Gertrude Ann Coolin (nee Crellin from IOM).
Also can you look up the marriage of his parents Edwin George Coolin (Canadian) and Gertrude Ann Coolin (nee Crellin from IOM). I have been informed of the date of their deaths but don't know their marriage.
Also is it possible to look up the marriage of Michael William Southwood Coolin and Eva Hearnon.
Many many thanks for your assistance.

Bunnykins, if you go to this site:
http://search-recherche.collectionscanada.ca/archives/search.jsp?Language=eng
Scroll down to "Soldiers of the First World War" Click on that. Click on "Search" Type in surname Coolin. There's a William Southward Coolin. Click on his name, then "Front of form" It certainly looks like a son of your Gertrude, but he was born in Montreal and his mother lived there.
There's also attestation papers for Edwin George Coolin but no other info there.

The Drouin Collection should have the 1890 birth you have asked about. It is searchable at Ancestry.ca; Margaret, do you subscribe? I don't.
Searching there produces a result for
Mona Daisy Kneen
but I can't see the details of the record.

Unfortunately, Bunnykins, we don't have anything like your FreeBMD in Canada. BMDs are a provincial responsibility. Some provinces have Vital Statistics online but not all. It's very difficult to access anything less than 100 years old. Margaret p.s. Love your name! I think I have some of your dishes in my cupboard.

Hi Margaret
Many thanks for the information you have found on the Kneen family. I think you are right about Mona as the Census of 1901 I have seen says "Mona" but the 1911 one says "Maria" so perhaps Maria is her name.
The 1881 Census is correct stating the right family with their children.
The newspaper article is very interesting but I am a bit confused about this. I assume the newspaper article is dated July 1907, if so, then I don't think it is the correct man as I have found Mr & Mrs Kneen on the 1911 Census living at 156 Elgin St in the province of Quebec and the son George would be correct but not Harry or Percy. May be it could be a relative of theirs as I believe this family of Kneen's didn't emigrate till 1890.
The information on Gertrude is great as I did wonder whether she had died around 1890 as she wasn't on the 1901 but obviously the only other reason would be that she had got married before the 1901 Census and would be found under her married name.
Thank you for your all help. As a matter of interest do you know if Canada has a version of FreeBMD like we do here in the UK or can you suggest any free websites were I can follow up any additional info I may need.

Would this Thomas be a relative?
Mr. Kneen was born and bred on the Bishop's demense in the Isle of Man, where his father was head gardener to the Bishop.
Thomas Kneen emigrated to Montreal in Canada and a Montreal Paper dated July 1907 has the following report:
"Mr. Thomas Kneen passed away suddenly last night, at his residence, No. 3 Concord Street, from a stroke of paralysis. He was in his 77th year, and had been resident in Montreal for fifty years, coming to this city from the Isle of Man , his native place. He crossed the Atlantic on a sailing vessel, the St. Patrick, which arrived at Grosse Isle after a fair voyage of thirty days. From Point Lewis the train was taken to St. Lambert, and the St. Lawrence was crossed on July 7th 1857, on the Iron Duke which was employed on the steam ferry, before the Victoria Bridge was completed in 1860. Mr. Kneen was an expert joiner, especially in staircase work, the most difficult part of the trade, and he planned and constructed many of the staircases in the older mansions of the city. For many years he has been independently in business, however, as a builder, and the greatest confidence was reposed in his skill and judgement. A year or two ago he retired from business on the account of impaired health, and since then has been noticeably failing. He was a member and a regular attender of St. James Methodist Church and upright in all his relations with his fellow men. His word was his bond. he was charitable to others, and those who knew him best esteemed him most. Mrs. Kneen and 3 sons George, Harry and Percy survive him ".

Hi
Can someone have a look at the birth records for:
Maria Kneen born in 1890 in Quebec, Canada. Mother name: Emily Jane Kneen (nee Crellin) originally from IOM and Father Name: Joseph Kneen from IOM.
Thank you in advance.
With help from this "community", they have been found on the 1901 Census and 1911 Census just trying to tie up some loose ends. If any one could look up the deaths of her parents I would be also very grateful. If not any idea where I could do this so I can keep searching.
Thanks again
