You should be able to find his birth - and probably his marriage - on FreeBMD ...

His marriage is on FreeBMD. The site is very easy to use and free to search.

Happy hunting.

Was he by any chance a 'boatman'? - If so, you may just have struck lucky!

Plus on FreeBMD there are a whole list of Williams/Peel births between 1912 and 1930 - depending on where your father was born you should be able to pick out his siblings from the list (or at least some of them).

Thanks for all the quick help!! I'm actually doing this for my dad William Williams the son of The William Williams I'm researching.. I have no idea at all how to start, or where to start..
I know they lived in Liverpool and that my fathers mother Mary (Williams wife) died in 1925.
Their children were:
William, John, Nancy, Phylis, Minnie, Maggie and Edith, I believe there was one more child, poss Elizabeth (Queenie)..
Whats free BMD and how do I get to it???
Finding info on his Dad would mean the world to my Dad.. one of those sad family stories .. love to do it for him before Christmas,
Thanks again
Tina (Christine)

Hi Tina. I'll follow up here. :)

FreeBMD: http://www.freebmd.org.uk

(You can't go directly to the search page - you have to click on the red Search on that page.)

Search for

marriages
surname williams
given name william
spouse's surname peel
given name mary

When you get the results, click on the page number and you will see the list of names.

Click on the spectacles beside the page number and you can view the original image. It is best to do this to make sure there is no error in the transcription.

With the registration info --

quarter (jan-feb-mar, etc.), year
district
name (usually best to use only one person's name)
volume number
page number

you order the marriage certificate here:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

You pay £7 - never pay more anywhere else.

The marriage certificate will tell you their ages and the names and occupations of their fathers. That is info that you need in order to trace farther back, usually.

William Williams in Liverpool -- you might also be needing a bit of luck!

Ask away for any more help -- we could all give you those marriage results, but it is way more fun to do it yourself!

Jayne -- have you started your own thread? That's the way to get what help people might be able to give here!

If you do, make sure that your subject line is informative (name, date, place) and that you give *all* the info you have.

Good luck!
