I have a John William Thorpe married to Elizabeth Dooley and they had a son Joe Thorpe in 1906, Oldham Lancs. I think John might have been married before. He was a Ironworks Labourer and lived in 7 Bedford St, Oldham, in 1906. His son Joe went on to marry Eva Turner and have Joe, Harold, Kathleen and Irene (twins), Jack and Desmond. |

Although he's a cotton spinner in 1891 and 1901 and yours is an Iron Works Labourer. |

Ironworks Labourer was mentioned on his son Joe's birth cert. All the census's mention jobs connected with the cotton industry. I'm wondering whether the change in employment came because of a decline in the cotton industry, not sure when that was. |

Another question if you don't mind. I would be grateful if anyone can make the address on the 1901 census, is it just Scott Street, as it appear to have something written under it, cellar perhaps and does anyone know what the numbers are 8 X ? and what are they for. |

It's 8 x 5c so I thinks that's number 8 on 5 Court. |
