Craig Report 9 Dec 2008 18:46

I am trying to find further details about my Great Great Grandfather Matthew Williams Thompson who according to the 1861 Census stayed at 4 Vicar Lane Kingston upon Hull with his wife Hannah Thompson ( maiden name Richardson Born 1836 in Preston) They married in 1858 at Holy Trinity. According to the 1861 Census his occupation was a coal miner.

In the 1871 Census he resided at the same address with his wife and his four children were Ann born in 1864, John born in 1867, Sam born in 1869, and Rose born in 1871. I suspect Rose died as she does nor appear in the 1881 Census

In 1881they resided at 8 Houston Square Kingston upon Hull. My Great Grandfather Matthew W Thompson born in 1875 also appears in this Census. His occupation is listed as General Labourer (Dock) - I am assuming he worked as a docker at Hull docks.

In the 1891 Census they resided at 8 Postern Gate Kingston upon Hull and his occupation is listed as general labourer
I can find no reference to Matthew Thompson senior in the 1841 Census when he would have been 5 or 6 years old and do not have any information relating to his whereabouts in the 1851 Census. He died (I think) in 1907 aged 72 His wife Hannah died sometime in 1891. Matthew does not appear in the 1901 Census when he would have been 66 years old. I would appreciate any help tracking his whereabouts in 1851 and/or 1841 which would give some clue as to his parents and siblings. I would also be interested in what happened to him after the death of his wife in 1891 to his death in 1907 as he appears to have dropped of the map after this point.

Many thanks

Craig
