Thanks Catherine this does seem to be her but wonder why her siblings are Davidsons?

As mentioned before her mother is known as Margaret reid and then as Margaret Davidson.

I think it is James Barbour who was her father so this Davidson family are probably her grandparents.

I'm getting rather confused.

Hi Ethel,
I've just checked ancestry again to see if there is anything else and luckily this census record is down as a free sample so there is more access.

Mary is noted as Granddaughter and Margaret is noted as being Unmarried Daughter, so it would seem that Mary was Margaret's daughter, but was born out of wedlock.

I've edited above census record.

Have a marrige for James Barbour and Margaret Reid and that was in 1845 at Insch.

Wonder why Margaret is a Reid and yet is down as a Davidson in the 1851 census with Mary Barbour and Davidson on Mary Barbour's death cert.

Then I wonder why Mary Barbour has the name Wallace In 1914 when James Cheyne Middleton got married her name was Mary Ann Barber Middleton m/s Wallace!!

It's amazing how the ages change with each census.

Elizabeth was 30 in 1841 and then 48 in 1851 and james was 30 in 1841 and turned 45 in 1851!!!

The date given as when she was christened was actually the date of her death and she died at Belhelvie.

Ok perhaps her mother was never a Reid.

just need to try to find out why sMary Barbour had Wallace as a surname??

In the 1841 census the ages for adults were usually rounded down to the nearest 0, or 5, so someone in 1851 that was noted as 46 would probably be noted as 30 or 35 in 1841 census depending on the area and the numerator.
