To be fair to him/her - It DOES look like Carl but if you look at the E on his occupation - Electro Plater - It is clearly the same, so it is Earl !!

Thanks for that Dea all I meant is that Im going to try and print it out to see if I can see if the original writing of Elizabeth Fox actually says Earl and see if it has been mistranscribed by the original person who put it up. Thankyou for your help in finding this information for me

Hi everyone
Im trying to find a Sarah or John Earl on the 1871 census. Sarah should be around the age of 31 on the 1871 census and John should be around the age of 40.
In 1866 they are living in Ecclesall Bierlow Yorkshire and have 3 children John B 1863 Albert B 1864 and Emily B 1866.
Any help on this would be great.
