Find Ancestors

I have trawled through ancestry and freebmd for hours,and another member on here has tried too but we cannot find any sign of Miriam Bullock b. 1866 Notts,Nottingham - Father,George (occ. Farmer) - this is from her marriage certificate to John W Greaves b.1866 Mirfield,Dewsbury. They married on14h May 1892 Dewsbury.
I have them on the 1901 census - Mirfield,Dewsbury. Thats where I got the place of birth for both of them.
I have the birth/marriage and death certs. for John but cannot find anything for Miriam prior to her marriage.
Can anyone find anything that I must be missing????!!!

Hi,You may have already looked at this one.The only one remotely like your Miriam is a Mary A c 1866,Bilsthorpe,Nottinghamshire and Father is George c 1829,Notts, Agricultural labourer and wife Sarah 1833,Notts.

Just wondering if there are transcription error's through the census up til 1891 where Miriam is a Mary Ann,Marianne or even Mary.

I am beginning to think the same thing. Its the only thing that makes sense!!
Other than its her middle name she is using,but I would have thought she would use her correct name on her marriage cert.?
I think I should try to get that Mary A 1866 that you have posted because I did look at it before and its the most likely. Could you help in finding her birth?

My grandmothers sister is Annie on the census. She married as Annie.I knew her husbands surname.
I couldnt find her birth until one of her relatives informed me she was called Phoebe Ann. She obviously didnt like her name Phoebe

It's possible that she wasn't born where she thought she was born. Maybe her family moved when she was very young.

(One of mine did that and it took me ages to track him down - once I'd managed to find him on an earlier census with his family it all then made sense as his family looked like they'd move when he was about 12-18 months old.)

Hi Cathy,Can you give me the detail's on the marriage certificate..i.e. witness's,any address's etc.
May hold some clue's for tracking her down.

Also,the Mary A I previously mentioned is in the 1881 census in Langwith,Derbyshire as a servant; spelt Mary A Bulock,age 15 yrs.Cass

Hi all of you and many thanks for your thoughts on this one, they are helpful.
now then Cassidy firstly you asked for the details of the marriage cert.:the address for both John William Greaves and Miriam Bullock is Lee Green, Mirfeld,Dewsbury.
the witnesses are: J.W.Hawksworth and Albert Gledhill.
Fathers name for Miriam Bullock is George Bullock occ.Farmer.
No Fathers name for John.
Both bride and groom are stated as 26yrs old,she spinster,he bachelor.
Grooms occ. looks like `Teamer`?

The Death certificate for John is 1905-5th March, Union Workhouse,Liversage and the informant was Mirriam Greaves,widow of deceased,of Gordon Terrace,Robert Town,Liversage,Dewsbury.

Thankyou margaret and jill, I will send for a couple of certs,it`s the only way I will get to the bottom of this, although I already got it wrong with a birth and death cert I thought was correct.!!

I have searched for a death record for Miriam with no success, then realised she may well have married again after John`s death so searched for a marriage for Miriam Greaves. Found it !! Dewsbury 1910 June vol.9b pge 1024. I have ordered it in the hope it may give some clue to real name and birth date and place.
Will keep you posted when I get it.

Hi Cathy,I was leading up to this...James Thomas Hester marriage 1910.

His wife died 1906..Maria Ann.
There does'nt seem to be any children between them...although Miriam was c 44 yrs of age.
I've searched for Miriam Hester's death between 1930-1940..so far,no luck.

Cathy,I've searched the death index from 1930-1962 and there are no other Miriam Hester's other than the one I've found.

Also,in 1957,there was a death registered for Thomas J Hester,Q2,age 97.Again...could'nt find any other Thomas J's.

I have sent for the death record you found for Miriam Hester.
Their marriage cert arrived to-day for James Thomas Hester and Miriam Greaves-they married in Heckmondwike,Dewsbury april 23rd 1910. He was a widower and she, a widow.
Miriams father,George,was now deceased and so was james father,John Ralph Hester.
I have found census records for James and his former wife Maria Ann 1901 Liversedge,Dewsbury.and record of his Father too...but try as I might I still can`t find George ? and Miriam !!! Her birth cert.seems to be elusive as I can`t be sure of who it is I am sending for a cert for.
