My paternal grandfather Joseph Thomas Smith married gladys and lived in walsall, he moved to leicester in the 1950's leaving Gladys behind.I m sure he must have had another family in leicester but with a name like smith he's proving very hard to find. His d.o.b could have been anywhere between 1895 and 1910. Also need to find Gladys maiden name, have found a possible (Thompson) as her sister had the fairly unusual name of Augusta (freebmd look up came up with Augusta Thompson 1895 Lichfield) but not able to confirm. MY DAD WAS ADOPTED SO A BIRTH CERT DOESNT HELP
Any help greatly appreciated : )
Thank you

Your dads original birth cert will be a great help. He will still have an original birth cert, even after he was adopted...

What was your father's Name, DoB and also DoA?

ok, gladys is dads adopted mother and smith is her married name, (his birth mothers name is on the cert Derry.)
she had a sis name augusta married chamley, pretty sure now that her maiden name was thompson but cant find her birth or her marriage to joseph thomas smith.

augusta e thompson, gladys' sister should be on the 1901 census but I cant find her there either, she was registered as born in lichfield

Gemma, thanks, dont know how you managed to find census details cos I couldn't. Yes I believe this to be the correct Augusta as Ive linked this 1 to later marriage and subsequent birth of children.
Ive looked for Gladys birth in walsall and lichfield between 1895 and 1920, I think she was younger than Augusta, she was registered blind but not sure at what age.

Does your document say that Charles was head, Sara his wife? and what about sara Baugh, would she be mother in law?
