No i think Eastbourne was under Sussex at this time and agree its more likely that as they were traveller's they had moved around alot and were not exactly sure where they were born or what county it was under.Least you have George and Roberts death and Amy's birth will give you the answer if that birth record is her.

just read the Kent on the census,
do you think the boundary changed? This family were almost certainly illiterate! which is why the names are spelled wrong also they probably had a sort of gypsy accent.

you have just solved a massive problem i have having with Bethany.
I had that birth it was the only one with that name that i could find,then on her marriage that i think i have got right she is Amy and in the 1881 she say's she was born Camberwell.Well all i can say is many many thanks.

could any one look for a family of mine in the 1901 census please.
They are Robert Faulkner c1860 and Wife Amy/Bethany c1857
in the 1881 census they lived at 4 blue Anchor Lane Hobbs terrace with one daughter Sarah age 0.
by 1901 they should have five daughters.
Sarah,Elizabeth,Rebecca,Emma and Amy.
According to my tree they should still be at the same address
