HOT MATCHES

Does anyone else have this problem. I have had several Hot Matches that sound really close to my 'searching' I reply to them and then nothing. I find this annoying as I don't know how long to wait before deleting them. Maybe I expect to much.

Regard Pat

Im glad its not just me. I get quite excited when Hot Matches come through I was beginning to think I was very sad and needed to get a life.

I think in many cases the names we are querying turn out to be marry-ins and are of little interest to them so they don't bother to reply

I often laugh when my relation is born in Sunderland and Hot Matches are everywhere but Sunderland.
I realise they may be of no interest to the other person but a short answer would be nice.
I will carry on though as I have had 2 successes and maybe more in the future.

Glad it is not just me. I was beginning to think the UK had black banned the "convicts" here in Australia.

I too get a little excited about finding Hot Matches - send messages off to those that I believe are a close match (name date and place of birth). Many with no reply.

Some respond saying, SORRY we are not related. Do people realise that even way back when, people did get divorced, married a second and sometimes a third time - these could well be matches even if the spouse is not the same.

And good heavens - even children out of wedlock!!

I'm sure there are many people out there that are expanding trees in all directions - not only the direct bloodline. For me any information that helps grow this tree (in fact my 2 trees) goes such a long way.

Would be nice to see a little courtesy from some !!

I keep on plugging away though.

To those that have taken the time to offer information and respond to my many PM's - thank you so much. It gives me hope.

For those of you in the UK - stay warm!!

Regards,
Eric,

(not much better weather here either)

my GU time) I'm glad its just not me but I always answer people because I think its polite but maybe people are busier than me.

Mary it is those ones that match perfectly that make it all worthwhile.
I've managed to find living cousins of my mother (by taking a punt on the Hot Matches) ones she had no idea existed.
Keep doing what we do and fingers crossed!!

I don't think I have ever had anyone contact me through hot matches (violins!!). I have had limited sucess in finding people for my tree though. They are v useful when looking for a common name where doing a tree search comes up with several hundred matches. I think they have now matched every John Jones for me now - they are matching with Albert Jones at the moment.
Worth keeping looking - there may one day be just that match that has been eluding you for months or even years as someone new joins GR.

Hi all,

I too find it very frustrating when people don't reply to messages sent as a result of a hot match. I will keep on sending them though because I have had several positive ones and have been able to share info and now in regular contact with a new found cousin. I've also had one who only wanted to add names to their tree and when I pointed out a blatant inaccuracy hasn't bothered to delete the details. Ah well that's up to them I suppose.

it's already been suggested that we put a few Minnie Mouses and Donald Ducks in our trees for these tree stealers - some have already doe it apparently

So obvious. My brain must have gone to sleep.

I agree with most of what you say. I went through the hot matches and for three weeks looking through all I got was William Smith. I almost gave up on it and then I started getting other names. To my delight in one week I found eight relatives and lots more details of my family. I also always reply to anyone that contacts me but I have had people not bother.
