I thought that might be the case as the only Rosina I could find to fit was a Johnson.
I can't quite get over the fact that this man remained single all of his life and fathered children at the age of 63. How old was your Grandmother at the time?
I get the impression that there may well be a generation missing somewhere and we are barking up the wrong tree here.

Hi Astra.
I have come across this one before.
Henry John was in fact Henry Johnson. On the original copy of the 1891 census it says Johnson not Johns. The...son bit tails off rather. Rosina was his sister and he was still with her in 1901.

Hi Astra.

On the 1901 census Henry Johns says he is 50 yet Free BMD shows no birth for that period. Was he telling porkies.??

If he had been 50 in 1901 this would have made him 60 plus when he had the two children with my grandmother.

The Henry JOHNS I have been searching for for months appears on the 1901 census for Aldershot
RG13/610 Folio 31 Page 7. He was a journeyman bootmaker by trade. He states the 1901 that he was 50 years old, Unmarried and born in London Soho.
In 1911 and 1913 he produced out of wedlock to children with my grandmother. The children were given his surname and he registered them both. In 1918 my grandmother remarried to another chap and Henry dissappears.
I have not been able to find Henry Johns in 1891 census when I assume he must have been a bootmaker.
All other Henry Johns I have followed through either die before 1901 or turn up somewhere else in that census year.
Seriosly thinking of getting the shredder out and finding a new hobby.

Dud.

Julie

Julie Report 17 Nov 2008 11:55

If the one that Jean has found not the right one, if you want to put up some details we could all have a look

I thought you said they were in the district of St Annes.....the 1891 that Astra put up are in Islington

Dudley

Dudley Report 17 Nov 2008 11:53

Hi Jean
Is that the 1891 census. Henry should be 33 not 13.

Julie

Julie Report 17 Nov 2008 11:49

I can't see either one of the in the St Annes district, but by the 1891 it might of been called something else

But there is one born In 1858 in this area of Westminster ...St John The Evangalist Westminster, London

Dudley

Dudley Report 17 Nov 2008 11:45

Hi Julie.

No...as I say I am clutching at straws. The person I am looking for and have not been able to find is named Henry Johns. Hoping there may have been an error by an enumerator who wrote down Jones instead of Johns.

Dud.

Hi. Is someone able to give me the details of the following from the 1891 census, including occupation.
Henry Jones aged 33 (b.1858) and Henry Jones 37 (b.1854) both shown to be in the district of Westminster St Anns Soho. No other details I'm afraid...clutching at straws here. Many thanks Dud.
