This thread is confusing

How many Greeks married a COLTON ??

OP emails to say the Elizabeth is wrong BUT no Stella found.

We found the right Jeanette & Philip

Does Fidelma know of her sister's death ???

Ps the Jeanette on 192.com is wrong
wrong first name of hubby & wrong second name of Jeanette & no sign of Philip assuming the surname is spelt correctly on the electoral roll.

Yes, Fran, that's the marriage. If you had mentioned that (you didn't know his surname?), it might have saved some time here.

This really is a lot of information about living people to be displaying on an internet message board without them knowing about it and consenting.

I'm kind of confused about your not wanting to bother the family because of Fidelma's sister's death. You are in touch with them? So you didn't need any of us trying to find contact details for her kids?

Fran Report 16 Nov 2008 22:37

HEY u guys are good!

Didnt know Fiddlededee had a Mary in front of it!

Fidelma was born in c38 in ireland, for some reason she ended up in England,. and married a Greek Cypriot, had 3 kids and then either got divorce or separated.

I had the kids down as Stella, Janet and Phillip.

so it looks like all of you managed to find something of interest. that Elizabeth is confusing tho'!

hmmm. I cant bother the family just now as Fidelmas sister has just passed away.

thanks! (drinks all round, as long as its WATER!)

ps Janette married a Greek guy called Banos, so that could be her marriage to him (Georgiou)

I have just sent a dozen PMs to people who have not replied in their threads in the last week, lol.

I expect Fran will be back, and I'm sure we will all be watching for her!

Maybe send a pm reminding her to do it in the morning?

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 16 Nov 2008 01:05

And can I just recommend that we all delete the info about living people once Fran does report in -- or maybe in this case it would be wise for her to delete the whole thread?

Hopefully, Fran will report back and try to sort this out for us!

You win, lol. Are you using Ancestry, and actually ploughing through pages hit-and-miss?

I'm going to delete the more recent rather personal info here, from after the 1998 marriage, after Fran has seen it.

However, there are 7 children with that surname combination! One set of 3 were born w/in months of each other -- could be one set of twins and another one -- so it looks like more than one couple by those names.

I don't see a listing for the name at

http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.content/en/search/residential/search.publisha

in the area where the marriage/births took place.

Here we are. She is Janette, and she is on the electoral roll, at 192.com.

I guessed London as location and was right. But no telephone listing comes up. You have to pay for access to the address info, or maybe someone here is offering lookups.

The spelling seems to be Papadopoulos, >?

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 16 Nov 2008 00:43

Barbara ... Fran and I, we're as bad as each other. Lucky I didn't do any searching. I said "1936".

Papadopoulos is indeed the most likely spelling, so the Jeanette marriage looks good.

www.192.com

does not show any electoral roll listing for her by her married name (or as Janet).

Hi Fran,
you have me confused !!

in your posting you put

"Fidelma was born in Ireland c1938"

then you have put

"Just trawled through 1826 Colton marriages"

Did you mean 1956??

Ive tried (by looking through Quarters) from 1955 to 1960 and cant find a Colton /Poppadopolous (or anything like this spelling) marriage. Or a Alan Walker in the 1980's marriage to a Fidelma /Colton or Poppadopolous

Hi Evie

Just trawled through 1826 Colton marriages......and no sign of her.

Tried with the Greek name. Might just try the kids, I know they were born in England.....

Hello, Fran. Are you not in touch with any of the family members?

FreeBMD has not yet transcribed marriages for that period. You (or someone) would have to do a visual search, at a paid site like Ancestry, reading the lists of names, a page (or two) for each quarter of each year when they might have married.

This is the link for doing that:

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8965

You can do it with a 14-day free trial, for instance, if you do not subscribe there.

I would have tried a quick search of the 4 quarters in 1936, but that particular search function at Ancestry has been out of service for some days now.

What it does is take you to the page where the name would appear in a particular quarter. So what you have to do instead, now, is go to the year, select the quarter, select the first initial, and hit-and-miss until you get the right page, and see whether the name is there.

I recommend waiting until it's fixed, lol.

Hi, Just trying to find the marriage of my Aunty Fidelma Colton to a Costas Poppadopolous (spelling may be wrong!)

They lived in Harrow in Middlesex, had 3 children, Stella, Phillip and Jeanette who was known as Janet.

The children were all older than me, by some years so I would put a possible marriage date of 1956 (Fidelma was born in Ireland c1938) and the kids shortly after,

Fidelma later divorced (possibly) Costas and in the 1980s married Alan Walker who I believe had 2 daughters.
