Does anyone have any info on Hannah (Annie) Lever, later to become Baker? Hannah always maintained she was part of the Lever Brothers Soap family but we all thought it was wishful thinking on her part. She was born in Liverpool 30/5/1891. I believe her father was John Lever c1856 and her mother was Mary Hignet/Hignat c 1856. She had several siblings: Thomas 1880, Mabel 1882, John 1885, Mary 1887, Alice 1889, James 1894, and Elsie 1896. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you so much, that verifies some of what I only thought I knew. I'm assuming that the Thomas Lever aged 71 could be John Lever's father then, so at least I now have a name. Thank you.

Thomas Lever IS stated as being John's father. He is stated as married, and born Liverpool..

That's the problem Janice, I don't have anything, only family hearsay and gossip! I haven't seen anything in writing or print!
However, I will persevere now I know most of it is right.

Lever family ---soap info
William Lever was born in 1851, in Bolton, Lancashire, England, and educated at the Bolton Church Institute. After training with his father's wholesale grocery business, in 1886 he established a soap manufacturing company called Lever Brothers (now part of Unilever) with his brother James. It was one of the first companies to manufacture soap from vegetable oils, and in conjunction with Lever's business acumen and marketing practices, produced a great fortune. James Lever never took a major part in running the business.

Hannah was also known as Annie. I have info that she married George William Baker at St Cyprians, Edge Hill, Liverpool in 1916 so it sounds right.

A marriage cert will give father's name/occupation

JennyBG

JennyBG Report 14 Nov 2008 23:00

Well, it doesn't look as if Hannah was a `soap' Lever does it. I think her father may have been a railway man so he'd certainly have a use for soap!
