Hi I am trying to find my Grandmother who was born (we believe) in 1896 she married Alfred Thomas Jones in 1915 in Shrewsbury. She died in 1930 we would like to find as much as we can about her for my father who is now 90 years old.

Can any one help

Thanks

Have you got her marriage cert? If not, that is the first thing you need to do to confirm her father.

Ozi.

Yes we have got that but he is not on it, which is quite strange

Then that suggests that she was illegitimate.

Was your grandmother called Gladys Williams or Gladys (surname May)

Unless you know where she was born it's going to be almost impossible as there are about 18 Gladys Mays on the 1901 England /Wales census.

My Grandmothers name was Gladys Williams on her marriage certificate but on the birth certificates of their three children she was Gladys May (and obviously by then Jones)

Would there be any other reason why her parents were not on her marriage certificate.

Yes Monk that is the one, but you probably know there is no father on it.

I am getting towards my wits end, as they are both popular surnames, I can trace quite a way with my Grandad's side but this is getting to me, I have been trying now for about three years, getting nowhere.
