So sorry about the delay. I thought the replies had come to an end so went off to finish some chores. Jean, thank you - maybe the enumerator wasn't very good at spelling!
Gwyn, had not thought about looking for a David. Honestly, what with a possible Daniel Clark instead of Daniel Cork and now a David Cork - my head's in a whirl! ~Very grateful for all advice.

We have found Daniel is sometimes mistranscribed to David....not so very different in old script writing.

Any likely 'David' about?

Hello again. He just doesn't seem to appear on the 1851 census for some reason. I now have to decide which certificate to send for I guess - oh boy! Thanks one and all.

Thank you Jean and Sue. I wonder if his name was mistranscribed in 1861 census after all? I am grateful for you help.

unless he's found on the 1851 -
guess you won't know which cert is right even if you ordered them all!

Birth registration was not compulsory until 1875, so there is a chance he might not have been registered.

by a contact!

My g.grandfather was Daniel Cork(e) born c1842/45 in Chelsea.
I have him on the 1871 and 1881 census and married to Olive Martin. I have him sorted after these dates thanks.

My contact has been looking for his birth but cannot find it. The nearest they have found is a Daniel Clark aged 16 born in Chelsea, in the 1861 census and we wonder if this is a mistrancription of his name.

I bought his marriage cert and his name is definitely Cork on that - his father is Richard. They seem to be farm labourers.

So please, could someone advise me if they can find the birth of this Daniel Clark and if it would be worth my while sending for his birth certificate? I'd like to get back on track again! Many thanks.
