You don't say when she married. You need to give this to work out her year of birth. Pretty sure that the family given above is the right one.

Kay Report 2 Nov 2008 11:41

Grandmother - Mary Bridget Bradley
Gt Grandfather - Michael Bradley
Came from Cork in 1885 when my grandmother was three weeks old. Cannot find anything about them on the 1891 or 1901 census or, indeed, anything regarding their births in Ireland. Have Marriage Certificate 1906 for Grandmothers marriage to Albert Brown.

Kay,

You need to start your own thread and not add a request to someone else's. Go to the top of the Records Office page and click on "add topic".

Bernard,

This looks as if it might be James's birth:-

Name: James Gribbin
Year of Registration: 1853
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Liverpool (1837-1934)
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8b
Page: 103

You can order online from the GRO.

There are a few births for the name Catherine Gribbin, but I think this may be the most likely:-

Name: Catherine Gribbin
Year of Registration: 1886
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: West Derby
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8b
Page: 616

You could always give James as her father's name as a reference checking point, so that you only get the certificate if her father's name is James.

Hi kath& julie.
thanks for all the info do you the james gribbin on the 1891 name spelt differntly is the one.
I remmber my dad talking about his uncle barney-bernard so it could be the right family.
But thanks again for your time.
kind regards bernie.

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 2 Nov 2008 20:14

I'm pretty sure that the Gribbin family in 1901 and the Gribbon family in 1891 are the same family as all the names match up.

The 8 year old James B. Gribbin/Gribbon could possibly be the "Uncle Barney your father remembered if he was known by a middle name.

I would have thought it much more likely that James Gribbin deceased was a coal hewer rather than a coal heaver.

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 3 Nov 2008 12:19

mgnv,

Coal heaver is a recognised occupation (and is definitely what is on the census forms). This is from old occupations site:-

Coal Heaver - Unloaded coalmine carts on the surface
