His mother was actually Emma Jane and this is his parents marriage:

Marriages Dec 1847

CAVELL Frederick Havant 7 215
COOPER Ellen Havant 7 215
>>>>Matthews Emma Jane Havant 7 215
>>>>SMITH John Havant 7 215

He can easily be found with parents up to and including 1871 - LOTS of siblings - his father died before 1881 when his mother had remarried to a Thomas Crockford!

This Sidney G does not appear after 1871 - only George!

P.S. - I can post all the census's if you haven't got access to Ancestry!

You can find all the children's christenings on IGI. which also confirm parents.

Emma Jane was only Jane on 1851 - after that Emma or Emma J.

Christenings after 1851 were usually John + Emma also.

Thank you Andy - I am not sure my husband would appreciate me receiving 'big kisses' over the internet (but I won't tell him !!)

Anyway - just pleased you are happy with the info.

I am sure it is correct - I have checked all census and Bmd + christenings etc.

I will keep my notes to one side for a week or so until you have time to check all via Ancestry.

Let me know if there is anything you need more detail on.

Best wishes,

Dea x
