Clare Report 17 Oct 2008 12:48

I'm trying to find out any kind of information regarding my Great Aunt Clara Giddins. I know she married in this county in 1922 to a Wilfred Clark. It's what happened after that I'm trying to find out. I then think they went to Australia to live but don't know what year. They had 2 children Peggy and Jeffrey. If you can help in any way please contact me.

Thanks

Julcoe

Did Wilfred or Clara have middle names ?
Where were Peggy and Jeffrey born ?
Did they have middle names ?
Was Peggy really Margaret ?

Hi

Yes the parents names are the correct ones.

We don't know where the children were born or the middle names, but think it may have been in Australia, we think peggy may have been margaret not sure.

Thank you for all your help, I tried looking but coundn't get any further than the marriage date. My cousin is doing to Australia in a few weeks to see her daughter who lives over there and she would like to go with as much information as possible.

Again thank you

You should buy the death certificates.
There is, usually, a LOT of extra info on the Australian certificates, like a list of all their children with ages.

You could try Joy Murrins transcription service (have not used her myself, but a lot on GR recommend her)
OR go to the New South Wales births, deaths & marriages and order from there.

www.bdm.nsw.gov.au

Good luck.

Thanks for all the info we are just trying to locat the births of their children now

Julcoe Report 20 Oct 2008 00:12

The info which Josephine has given indicates that Wilfred & Clara went to Australia in 1922.

We can only accesss births up to 1907 in NSW.
They would be on electoral rolls after 1943/44, but we can only access the rolls up to 1936 !

To find out their birth dates is going to be near impossible.

Then from this we would think that the chikdren were born in Austraila. The info from Josephine would be from where? Would it be regarding when they left the UK and went to Australia?

Julcoe Report 20 Oct 2008 10:01

I have seen the info on 'findmypast' passenger list.
The record goes...
Name .. date of birth .. Sex ..Departure Year & Port..Destination Country & Port.

As Clara & Wilfred were married in 1922 and sailed in 1922, then their children would be born in Australia

Don't forget that if you buy Wilfred or Clara's death certificate is should list the children and their ages (at time of parents death).
Then you would know what year they were born.

Check out Ryerson Index (google it)
It lists deaths from newspapers at to present day almost
There are a few Geoffrey's there.

Hi Julie

Where did you find their deaths?

Was it on a web site if so what is it called

Julcoe

Julcoe Report 21 Oct 2008 01:55

It is the NSW government web site

www.bdm.nsw.gov.au

On the left is a blue area. About half way in this box is"Family History" click on this.
Then click on " Search Historical Indexes"
Then "search now" in blue and underlined
Choose either births & deaths OR marriages
enter details and wait for your results.

You can order certificates directly from this site
OR try Joy Murrins transcription service..(google her)
I have not used her myself, but plenty of people on GR have mentioned her

Well done Clare,
Hopefully it will have lots of extra info.
Once you find out where she died (and lived) you might be able to contact the local library and ther might be able to track her family on census records .
Good luck.
