Find Ancestors

Can anyone please help me?

I am trying to find some infor to help me get back further on my ancestory trail - on

Charles Trojen Bell born approx 1870 (India?) occ Engineer, lived in Kensington around 1937 (x1 daughter known - Doris Maude - my nan) he shows up on 1891 census aged 21 and living at 232 Vauxhall Bridge Road, Hanover, Belgrave

John Churchman Robertson born approx 1875? area unknown - could have been Scotland from snippits of info - deceased at time of my Grandad's wedding in 1937 (Douglas Lister Robertson) - so hit a bit of a brick wall.

Would love to know more about these two characters, who they married, what they did and so on, or if anyone could kindly point me in the right direction that would be great too.

Could the middle initial be a 'T'? as his middle name was TROJEN (as shown on my Grandad's marriage cert.

Also could he have been married twice? as my Nan Doris Maude was born 1919 and died 1959 - so not sure if this would tie up?

But India part does seem to tally!!!!

Everything else seems to fit, but as you said the middle name doesn't match - is there anyway it can be him? or have I hit another dead end?

Sue you will need to order a copy of Doris Maud's birth cert before you can think about tracing her dad. It all to easy to follow the wrong family.

I have found him on 1891 census at 21 yrs old, as a boarder, born in India but address being Vauxhall Bridge Rd, Hanover Belgrave and initial is T.

I don't think that it can be him on those two censuses because the initial is F in both cases.
i think that it is more likely to be the English birth found for you above.
How do you know he was born in 1870?

That 1891 census I posted is the Vauxhall Bridge Road address. The middle initial of F looks like other F's on the page

Only confirmed info I have on Charles T Bell is off my Grandads marriage cert - stating his name and occupation, the rest has come from searching on census records - where he came up on 1891 with that initial and other details mentioned before.

I can give you access to my tree if that would help?

You must get Doris's birth certificate as this will give her mothers name as well,
Then you can look for the marriage of her parents and go further back one step at a time. As someone else said, there is no point in going down the wrong family line

Are you sure of Doris date of birth?

I can see a death in 1959 at age 54, which fits with this birth

Last post for Charles T Bell - marriage seems to fit - but can definately confirm from Grandads m/cert his middle initial is a T (Trojen).
