I am looking for JAMES FEATHERSTONE

I have found James Featherstone married Sarah Bever in northampton in 1793/4 (IGI).

Other than the birth of his son George in 1799 Werrington, the only record i can find is a convict who was shipped to New South Wales in 1818, convicted in Leicester.

Does anybody know how I can find out what he was convicted for? It may give me a clue as to whether I have the right James. I have no date of birth for him.

There is also a Jas Featherstone shipped out the same time.

Many thanks
Debby

Hi there - one my relatives was transported to Oz in 1833 and I have a transcript of the newspaper report which came from Pastfinders.Net - I didnlt find it, another realtive did and sent me a copy. Crimes were usually petty, stealing a loaf of bread or something trivial. Mine was for writing a threatening letter to his employer - he was transported for 12 years!!! never found out if he survived the journey or what heppened to him

just noticed that bit about Jas Featherstone - presumably you are aware that the abbreviation for James is Jas? so it could be one and the same person

:) many thanks Lorraine, thats given me lots of info.

The original info I had listed that he had been convicted in Leicester, so i'm not sure about the Newcastle connection, unless he was held there?

I'm not 100% that he's my James yet, thats what i'm trying to confirm, but as yet, and with much hunting he is the only James to fit all the facts that I have.

My thanks again for your time

The James who arrived on the 'Neptune' would be much to young to be your James...

New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia Convict Musters, 1806-1849 about James Featherstone
Name: James Featherstone
Arrival Date: 1818
Vessel: Neptune
Fleet: Second
Piece: HO 10/19
Province: New South Wales
Title: General muster A-L
Year(s): 1825
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1796 <<<<<<<<<<<<<

Although, after checking the original record, I do not know where 'they' got his age from to work out his birth year, as these is not an age written on the document

I have not found 1 other entry for the James who arrived on the Batavia !
I am beginning to wonder if that this transported him from one port within Australia to another and all entries are for the same James.
The entry which I have posted with his birth date is the only mention of his age. BUT.. I can not see where they got this info from.

I have found other entries (for other people) where an age is given but usually I can see where they get the info from. Some times it is an incorrect transcription. Therefore wrong !

Thank you ladies for your help ((((hugs))))

Maybe this new info (thank you micheal)
will help.

James had a son also James born 1794 in paston. So was there 2 James?

James (father) was born 1767 Peakirk Northamptonshire.

I still cannot find any trace of James wife Sarah Bever, she seems to of dissappeared :) Maybe thats a clue to the crime committed lol

I've just found the younger of the James on ancestry.
On the 1871 census it shows his children were born from 1821 in england, hence, he couldn't of been in NSW serving 14 years from 1818.
