Thanks Kath - I'll go back to the Cheshire site and see what I can find.

Personally, I would go with Saughall. It definitely looks like "au" after the first letter and an S and an L are often misinterpreted in old writing.

Hi RB I have Mary more or less sorted and found her baptism quite easily (Storeton part of Bebbington) so thought George would be a doddle! hahah.

Ok so it looks like I have to choose between Saughall and Saighton again! Will also look up Caughall - don't know that one. Why couldn't they just print these names ???? Very grateful for the replies from the Rapid Response Team! Thanks all.

Hi Cynthia

It looks like Cheshire, Saughall, Nr Chester to me but there is also a Caughall which could have been mistranscribed ?

Sorry, trying to keep up. Hi Rutland Belle, he was married in Liverpool and stayed there till his death. Hi Glitter Baby, thanks, yes that the right chap it's just the handwriting of his place of birth that's the problem.

Hi Cynthia

My guess would be Saighton which is SSE of Chester

I think the birthplace will be Saughall near Chester.

It's just to the north west of Chester.

I would be grateful if someone with more experience than I have could please look at the 1851/61 census and tell me where George Trueman was born!

(The 1841 has Liverpool but....)
1851 Saughter Cheshire (under Brueman)
1861 Langhah Nr Chester

Ideas so far have been Saighton or Saughall. Thanks to the new Cheshire registers website I have checked the parish churches for these two places but can't find George anywhere.
Is there anything else it could be?

I have just received his marriage cert - 1837 and he was 22. His father was James - no idea of his dob, it would have to be guesswork. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Thanks.
