Just to add that I am in contact with a relative of Thomas Leroy, they have stated that the marriage cert them have states Annie Thompson is a spinster.

Oh and George Alderslade is listed as a coal miner on Elizabeths marriage cert

I pesumed with Elizabeth being adopted and George dying that Ann must have died too.
I only have access to GR for census searches and the ones you have listed do not show up for me.
Did you get them from ancestry?

OK, looking at this tree George was married 3 times,

First wife died 1879; Margaret Fitzpatrick, children-George and John Thomas.

2nd wife died 1885; Sarah Steadman, children-Joseph and Edward.

3rd wife, no date of death; Anne Thompson, childrten- Elizabeth T, Mary Ann and William.

It states that Anne was born in 1859

George died in 1890, so maybe Anne was still alive and unable to look after all the children.

It may be worth seeing if they have the same mother and father, unfortunately the only way of knowing that is, is if you order them.

Thinking about we are all presuming Elizabeths mother died, what if she didn't???

This ones like a grapevine, lol.

Elizabeths middle name was Thompson, what if the mother died in child birth, without being married and George named the child and placed her in the care of a family????

May be another co-incidence. There's a Steadman on that last census return

Hi all,

My Great grandmother was born Elizabeth Thompson Alderslade in 1886, to parents George Alderslade and (what looks like) Ann Alderslade (formerly Thompson).

Elizabeth is listed in te 1891 census as an adopted Daughter under the name Elizabeth Featonby,
and in the 1991 census under the name Elizabeth Featonby Alderslade.
I have Elizabeths marriage to John Thomas Alexander.

The trouble I have is that I cannot locate her parents marriage, or the mothers death.

This is driving me up the wall now.

All help greatfully appreciated.
