Find Ancestors

does anyone know if there is a way to find people prior to 1841 without having to send for certificates (probably a dumb question hehe)
the people im looking for are parents for an Adam Taylor born c1812, in kendal cumbria, i believe he had a sister margaret who married someone with the surname desmond. my adam was married to a sarah also from kendal. ive searched some realy good sites that give u records of baptisms burials and marriages in the kendal area, that go right back to the early 1600's but unfortunatly not as late as the 1800's. this is probably a dead end without certificates but thought i would ask anyway

You wont get certificates pre 1837 .the best you can hope for is a baptism from Parish records. Baptisms took place usually very soon after birth so will have you some idea of the birth year.
if Adam married after 1837 then you will get a marriage cert that should tell you his dads name & occupation.providing he wasnt illigitimate .
Finding him on a censustoo will give you some idea of his year of birth.

I've had a look for a marriage to a Mary, but can't find anything.

Also, I've had a look at the Census reports and in 1841 he was a Printer, in 1851 he was a printer compositor and Sarah his wife was a Compositors wife and in 1861 he was a printer of letterheads.
