I'm trying to trace information about my great grandfathers family.

He was Harold Edward Simpkin D.O.B 1894

His parents where Albert Edward Simpkin & Annie Elizabeth nee Gilbert?

According to the 1901 census he had 3 brothers
Albert Leslie aged 9
Jospeh Claude aged 4
Clarence Edwin aged 0

In 1901 they were living in Basford, Nottingham.

If anybody has any information they can share, i would be truly greatful.

I find it really interesting that Basford was part of Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire.

After researching the 1891 census, I've found
Albert Simpkin age 19 living with his Brother-In-Law, in Nottingham & his profession was listed as a carter, in the property lived 9 people including a number of in laws!
I'm wondering as one of the residents in the property was an Emma Simpkin widowed. I'm wondering if this was the catylist for him to change to a better profession. As he'd become a book keeper by the 1901 census.

Annie Gilbert age 20 a lace hand living with her parents, 2 brothers & 2 sisters in Nottingham.

Hi Tracey, don't know if this is any help, but I found it on the Parish Registers. This shows an Albert Edward Simpkin born in 1870. Could it be Harold's Dad Albert's birth. If the years look right, it also shows his Mum & Dad's name.

Alison i think the information you've found relates to information Ann of Green Gables posted.
I'm 99% certain that my Albert Edward Simpkin was born in 1872. I'm basing this on the 1901 census which states his age as 29.
I'm currently trying to decipher the information on the 1891 census which lists him living in Radford with his brother-in-law, to see if i can gain any further information. It lists an Emma Simpkin, widowed, so am going to see if i can follow this lead.

I used FreeBMD to try to find Birth records for the children mentioned on the census.

I came up with the following:
England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index:
First Name: Jane Brooks
Surname: Simpson
Also under this record is a Francis Brooks Simpson
Year of Registration: 1849
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Radford
County: Nottinghamshire

Which would tally with the childrens names of Jane & Francis on the 1851 census.

Also i researched Paul & found the following:
England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index:
First Name: Paul Brookes
Surname: Simpson
Year of Registration: 1853
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Radford
County: Nottinghamshire

I think the Brooks name maybe Millicents maiden name.
On the various census records, the birthplace for Millicent, has different place spellings.
But I believe she was born in the Parish of Wirksworth in Derbyshire in 1810.
If you track her ages on the census's they all give a different birth year tracking back. the range is 1805 - 1811.

In all i believe Adam & Millicent had 8 children.
What i find interesting if you look at the 1871 census showing John & Emma Simpkin living in Moores Yard, Radford. Above their record is a Millicent Simpson Widowed, with children Frances, Lydia & Paul.

I not sure if my tracking methods are correct as i'm new to Genealogy.
