Thanks Andrew, that would seem to be her in both the above records. That was probably one of the only possible mis-spelling of her name I hadn't tried & when I think about it it's the most obvious one.

At least I know I'm on the right track, it's just a matter of establishing which is the 'right' name now.
Wonder if her marriage is even legal when she married as Strickland?

Thanks again!

Thanks both, at least I am a bit enlightened even if it doesn't help in searching!

Ok, going to have to finally admit defeat & beg for help.

I'm looking for Emma Mary A. Strickland, born c.1866, possibly in Portsmouth.
I know she married Albert Edward Scarlett Dec 1884 in Portsmouth and I have located her in the 1881 census also in Portsmouth.
In 1881 she was living with Henry & Emma Strickland, (her parents?), at 151 Malins Rd, Portsmouth. Emma Jnr was 15 & working as a dressmaker.
From IGI her father Henry is described as an ANNUIANT - does anyone know what that is? Is it something I can check a trade directory for?
I cannot find a record of Emma's birth or christening and cannot find her or her parents on earlier census'

All help gratefully accepted.

Thanks!
Hayley
