Alice Gladdys Frost (my grandmother) born 1877 who married Samuel Alexander Richardson (born 1881) at St. Georges, Hanover Square, London on 14.11.1905. They lived at 71 Westbourne Street, Pimlico at the time of their marriage. Samuel at the time was a Piper with the Scots Guards later to be promoted to a Lance Sergeant. They later produced 4 children given the names of Jean Patterson, Grace Patterson, Alexander Patterson and Samuel Alexander.

Alice's father's name was Edward as shown on her marriage certificate, he was a Brewer. My grandfather was Samuel who was wounded at the Battle of Aisne in the Somme in September 1914, he later died of his wounds at the Majestic Hotel in Paris on 20th September of the same year.

I have been searching for information on my grandmother for some years now without any success. I cannot find her on any census, no record of her birth nor her death after she became a Richardson through marriage. I cannot find anything on her father Edward (my great grandfather) either, so if this gentleman also rings any bells with anybody, I would love to hear from you.

possibly this edward was not her father or her mother may have remarried, had a look found nothing yet.

There was no indication on the marriage certificate that it was a second marriage was there ?
She would have been 28 at the time of this marriage which seems a little late for that era.

Do you know where the "Patterson" middle name comes from ?

Patterson comes from the side of my great grandfather who married Jane. It originates from around Spittal and Ord in Northumberland where on my father's side a large quantity of my family originate.

I am losing hope Tracy, it's been a long hard hunt and I am still none the wiser.

Hi Smiley, thanks for the suggestion but I have tried this avenue also but without success. In 1919 when my grandfather was honoured posthumously with war medals, Alice was still a Richardson as she signed for the medals from the Home Office.

Ah yes but an Alice G Richardson married a Herbert W Richardson in 1914. Did she marry Samuel's brother?

Hi Pal, Samuel did not have a brother by that name but I'm not going to rule out this lead and would like to investigate further. Please advise your resource for this information. Cheers!

I asked earlier if there was a possibility that this could have been Alice Frost's second marriage,
but you didn't answer

Have you got a birth certificate for one of her children,
it would have Alice's maiden name on it.

Hi Julie, sorry, I did forget to answer that part didn't I? I do in fact have my father's birth certificate (Samuel and Alice's second son) but all it says is Alice Gladdys Richardson formerly Frost.

Oh well, at least you know that you are definately looking for the correct name.

Thanks Julie, I also found that entry and went back a few generations but this Gladdys is not the one :(

I am begining to think that her maiden name was not Frost and that she married a Frost he died she remarried Samuel Richardson and on the the childs birth cert just used Frost. I have found this happen on my husbands side his dads mum did not put her maiden name on his cert she used her 1st married name, it took me ages to find her. hope this makes sense

I know how you feel John. I have my grandmothers birth and marriage cert. On both her father is Charles occ photographer. Mother Maria claiming to be married.

On the census gran is a nursechild in 1891 and lodger in 1901. No sign of parents,deaths anything so frustrating

Hi Tracy, her father's name was Edward Frost as noted in my first message so I don't think this was the case, but thanks for your message anyway.
