Hi,

My nan's mum was part of Bertram's travelling circus. I'm trying to find record of her birth but can't find her and know that it was highly likely that she married someone called Taylor but as it was a travelling circus this is very hard to find. Is there any way to find any records of anything related to the circus?

Also, my nan was in St Mary's orphanage (convent) in Leeds and her brother was in the male equivalent - is there any way to locate them through any records kept in these establishments?

The one in the circus was called Amy Peers and she was born in Doncaster. I have no idea when she died. She's not on the 1901 census so I'm assuming after 1901 she was born but I could be wrong and she could have lived elsewhere when the census was taken.

Her husband's surname was Taylor/Tayler and that's all I have - not much to go on at all.

My nan was called Doreen Peers (but could have possibly been put in the orphange under the name Johns) and her brother was Ronald Peers. She was born June 1932 and ronald was born March 1929.

Thanks for getting back so quickly.

I have my nan's birth certificate which shows she's listed as Peers but I'm not sure what she was put under in the orphange - she was taken in by her Uncle who was Harold Johns who married her Aunty (Violet May Peers). I also have Ronald's birth certificate which puts Amy Peers as his mother but cannot find a record of her birth anywhere!!

Was Amy actually Emma:

Births Sep 1908

Amy might have been a stage name.

Looks like her parents stayed in the Doncaster area because of this birth:

Thanks Rose for your help! I was thinking Emma may be Amy - may have got lost in translation so to speak!!

Both Doreen and Ronald were born illigit - they both had different dads which is why I can't use that link really. I just can't find any trace of Amy but may try the Emma lead and see where it gets me!

You've both been great help so far - thanks for giving up your time to help. I've been pulling my hair out over this for about a month so far!!
