It could be because of the age of the graves and perhaps they were not private graves they have been reused over time, ie- another burial on top of the children, this is common, also if you buy the land of the grave it is only on lease for a certain length of time.
Here in Northumberland it is usual for it to be 75 years but other parts of the country it can be less.

hi,
yes i too rang the crem and they gave me the plot numbers but she said it would be near on impossible to show me where they were due to no headstone, i thought this was strange. they were my nans siblings and she has asked me not to tell her what i find whilst doing my tree as she knows something sad happened before she was born. so i dont want to upset her as im sure she only think one sibling died when in fact ive found at least 4. two died within months of each other and were buried in the same plot then another died again not long after and he was buried behind them. ive recently had twins and wondered where they came from in our family and it turns out my gt nan had 2 sets!!
i think ill have to try to be a bit firmer and demand knowing where they are after all they are my family. also im new to this so lfw i have no idea what the fhs is.
thanks lfw and jen.
tasha xx

If you know the plot numbers I see no reason for the cemetery not telling you where these plots are.

I'd try them again - possibly on a different day to before and hope you get a more helpful member of staff. Some people are just "Jobsworths"!!!

Hi Natasha

Have you tried the local FHS they may have transcribed the MIs and the book/CD usually contains a map. Children were sometimes buried in the grave of someone else who had died at the same time.

odd they wont help. i recently was tracing 5 girls who all died in a fire in 1873 and were all buried in my local graveyard, knowing thier names i rang the crem and they gave me the grave/plot numbers, also said if we found it difficult to find they would have someone show us, and these were not even my family.
id have another go at them.

hi,
im hoping you amazing people here will be able to help me. im tracing my family tree and have found out my gt grandmother sadly lost many children . now i know which cemetery they are buried in and its only a few miles from where i live. ive rang the local council to see if i can get a burial map for the cemetery as i would love to go and lay some flowers down. some people may think this is silly but its what i want to do and im determined to suceed in finding them.
thats the prob the council cant tell me where they are exactly buried as theyre not allowed for whatever pathetic reason. so im hoping someone will already maybe have a burial map for there as i know the plot numbers. unfortunately they dont have headstones else i would search the cemetery for them.
can someone please help!!!
