Peter Report 31 Aug 2008 20:57

Dear all,

I am looking for two of ggggg uncles in the census:

1) Joseph Smitheringale, who was born in 1815 in West Deeping, and he died in August 1853 in Maxey, Northamptonshire.

2) Henry Smitheringale, born in 1826 in Maxey, Northamptonshire.

Obviously Joseph can only be found in the 1841 and 1851 census, but as for Henry I know of no other information other than he may have been bankrupt in 1862 ... I hope hoping to find out through research.

thank you in advance for any help!

Peter

with and children born in West deeping

the Christian boys are sons in law (step sons) so they must be the children from Alices first marriage, that would explain why she is older than him

Peter Report 31 Aug 2008 21:48

Wow I left the PC and imagine my surprise to see all of this brilliant info - Linda thank you so much you have really pieced the family together for me. I found Henry's wife's Alice had died in 1896 aged 82, but strangely I can not find Henry's death ...

Lost for Words thank you - I had found Henry Smitheringale's bankrupt in another newspaper database but thanks to you I now have this:

Henry Smitheringale, of West Deeping, in the county of
Lincoln, Wheelwright, having been adjudged bankrupt
under a Petition for adjudication of Bankruptcy, filed in the
County Court of Lincolnshire, holden at Stamford, on the
6th day of March, 1862, a public sitting, for tbe said bankrupt
to pass his Last Examination, and make application
for his Discharge, will be held before Francis Ellis, Esq.,
Judge of the said Court, on the 12th day of May next, at
the Court, at Stamford, at two o'clock in the afternoon precisely,
the day last aforesaid being the day limited for the
said bankrupt to surrender. Messrs. Slieild and Hough,
Registrars of the said County Court, are the Official Assignees,
and Mr. Thomas Laxton, of Stamford, is the Solicitor
acting in the bankruptcy.

Yes Alice, was married before she married Henry in 1848 ... she married Thomas Christian in 1837 ...

Wow thank you all so much this is fabulous, and this all makes a very interesting family, what with the info I am gathering lately.

Can I ask though what Rebecca and her son Joseph are doing at Waldram Hall in 1841 - servants? If they are living in grandeur due to an inheritance that is news lol
