I notice that they are living at Cessford. Just checked on Genuki and Eckford is or was a parish in Roxburghshire, containing villages - Eckford, Eckford Moss, Cessford and Caverton. Note - Caverton where Thomas names his birth place in 1861 and 1881.

Paula, unfortunately I cannot find her on the English or Scottish 1901 census. Better waiting until you have parents names to go by.

One thing that might help she did have connection with a convent (not sure what one tho) in Scotland.
Maybe she went to school there?
She was born, married and died in England though.
