Hi Jacqueline

I dont have the name of David William Smith (the son) spouses name at present but hope that I can find it in the future.

Could she have been with grandparents? Have found a couple of missing children this way.

Still no clearer with my search for Boreging but theres always hope.

Doesn't look any better today!!
I thought it might have been Rosina as there was a birth but had a look when I was in our libray today and she had different parents. I don't have full ancestry access at home.
looking at the Smith born in the right qtr for the age in St Saviour I can't imagine any other name being misheard. Perhaps we should be looking wider.
Can'y find any of the other children in 1901 but may be missing something.

Hi Linda,
Do you know who your David W. Smith (the son) married.
My nan's father was a David William Smith.
Thank-you, Jackie.

My nan's name was Rosina & her birth cert.say's father David William Smith, I cannot find her living with him in any census though, she would have been 2 years old in 1891 & was born St.Olave,Southwark.
Maybe she wasn't with dad in census if he was so young?
I can't find my nan in ANY census but I know her family were all in Bermondsey, southwark & I have photo's etc. of them??

Sue - if the age (4 mths) is right he would have been born Oct/Nov/Dec1890 as the census was taken 31-3-1891

Denise - can you pm me with a copy of the original to look at - I love a challenge!

Hi Linda,

OMG!!!

I have looked at this name on the original census for half hour now, looked through the Smith births for St Saviours Southwark for 1 year period, no sign of anything I could think this name says.

Really need expert eyes on this one.

A VERY VERY strange name, I really think you're right and it's mistranscribed...... but what is the correct name???????

In the census 1891 the following is shown
Eliza Smith age 45 wife of David born Suffolk children
Boreging Smith 4/12, David W Smith 18, John H Smith 16 and Mary Ann Smith 6.

Eliza's maiden name was Salisbury.

I have the 1901 census that just shows Eliza and David.

I have searched under the name Boreging with no luck, could the enumerator have miss heard? If so what could the name be?

Can anyone help me?

Thank You

Linda
