I am tracing the Mann family from Leicester, and know that Sarah married Walter Mann - I dont yet have the marriage cert, but the 1881 cenus, says that she was born in Nottingham

If I had to choose 1 to investigate further, from the 3 that you have given me, I would go for:

( does it give parents info) - I am guessing that her mother may be an Ann?

I am looking for a Sarah Ann Bennet, from Notts, so the Radford one is Coventry(?)
And the other one is Sarah Jane.

Sarah Ann - born Nottingham - looks like shes a very 'probable' - thank you.

I wonder if its pos to find this family in the 1861 & 1871 census?

Sometimes, the smallest detail can help one to elimanate a person ( or not)

There uis a Radford in Notts, and the Radford 7b reference is the registration district for Radford, Nottinghamshire.

If you go to freebmd, find a birth and click on the reg district it gives you details about the district.

The references are just from the index, if you want the names of the parents you would have to get the certificate or find a baptism.

I have a question:

Sarah Bennet in 1871 is 13yrs old ( so she was born c1858) & her parents are Mary Bennet & John Grocock

Mary & John didnt get married until 1867.- some
9 yrs after Sarah was born???

We know that Sarah (aged 2) was living with her grandparents ( Marys Parents) in the 1861 census and we know that Mary wasnt on the census with em - so,
is it pos please to look for John Grocock in the 1861 census to see where he was? Maybe, Mary was with him - and if not where was she ............?

I have tried everything I can think of but cannot find Mary.

I think it is quite likely that John is not Sarah's father - what has she put on her marriage cert?

I havent got the marriage cert yet, so am looking for more clues at the mo ........

Wonder where Mary was in 1861.???

Either she was with the babys father / fathers family ( if John is not Sarahs father) ..or, with other relatives, (but then why leave a 2yrs old with her parents)..... or she was in hospital - bit unlikely - or she was in prison???

Any ideas how I can eliminate prison / hospital??
