Hi, I am new to this but I am sure I am not having a blank moment. On my mums birth entry it says her mums maiden name is moseley, therefore I looked up mary hilda moseley (16.02.23) nothing. so I go to look up my grans sister mildred moseley (1927)(clarified the mothers maiden name again from mildreds daughters birth entry) and again nothing. Found the death entry for my gran (her sister only died this year so not her death entry) mildreds obituary didn't have Nee ( I find this strange coz neither did my grans) yet most people do have thier maiden printed for old friends etc.........can someone please help coz I have no idea what to do next most of the family is dead, didnt think I would hit a brick wall so early on.....cheers. |

Gran definately 16.02.1923 and her sister 1927 they did have a brother but dont know his age. Both were born in the Manchester area (or at least that is what i have been lead to believe. I also have a full brother who was given up for adoption but i dont know how to even try to begin to look for his birth entry...he was adopted into what i believe was family i.e my Grans and her sisters brother but his surname was emmett, so I dont get why their maiden name was moseley |

right okay I have found out that Mildred (grans sister)was registered with the surname Emmet her mothers maiden name was jones I found that entry, Their brother harold was born 1924. But now I can't find any entry for my gran Mary Hilda nor Harold. Why did Mildred have a maiden name of Moseley if she was registered as an Emmet. I am sorry if I am being thick but I don't get it. My dads side of the family is quite straight forward |

When & who did she marry? Perhaps the marriage entry will help. |

What was her fathers name?..If children were born out of wedlock they were sometimes registered under the mothers maiden name and the fathers surname, as they still are today, so there are sometimes two entries for a birth |

Thankyou Portland Rose, I get the impression you are well practised in this searching business. Regarding the others being siblings at this point I am going to look into James and Irene (purely from the angle that those names ring a bell, but they were not neccesarily introduced as a brother and sister to my gran) I do know my mums side were dysfunctional and secretive and I think its going to be a hard slog. |
