The Accrington Observer (local paper) has a web site and an 'ex pats' section. You might add your information as there may still be family living in or around the town.

Good luck

I like messing around on the Mormon site and put Theophilus in the search box and came up with Frederick Smith, a minister who was 43 in 1881 census who has a son called Theophilus and six other children. Theophilus was 6 in 1881 and they lived in Lancashire - could be absolutely nothing to do with your family, but it was the minister bit I thought unusual
