Hello everyone,

This is a tall order and i do hope there is some one out there who
could possibly help.

I have GGG grandparents who liked to travel and i have little chance of finding their births, their family were b different countries
the 2 births i am after are Mary ann and Joseph Clark(e) b around
1825/ 29 (Mary first) according to census they were b Nova sc,
Halifax. U.S.A.
The family are as follows William Clark b 1787 England augustine 1796 French
Eldest my GG GRANDAD WILLIAM B 1821 Dublin Ireland second we think was b 1824 same Thomas reason being on 1841 census he was put at bottom of page but his age was second eldest.
then the the next 2 were Mary and Joseph then they came back
to england and John b 34 and Louis b 1835.they were living Highfields Sedgley.
I have a load of info on the family so i do not want census but
hoping to find births of all of them.English ones i have its the others i am looking for.
Would love to find the usa ones so if anyone can help i would be very grateful

First of all Halifax is in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada, not USA.

Margaret,

I found that out but my geography is no good and it
had all 3 names on census, so i thought best to put usa as i did not know what it would have come under back then in 1800,s
but i bow to your judgment because i have no idea.
Should i change the heading then and put Canada?

Lots of Joseph Clarks showing on Ancestry.com - including several travelling to the USA.

Found this but hard to say if it's of any use:

Name: Joseph Clark
Arrival Date: 6 Jan 1843
Age: 21 years
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1822
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Halifax, Nova Scotia
Ship Name: Acadian
Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts
Microfilm Roll Number: M277_16

I have some Nova Scotia records on disc but I can't find Joseph or Mary Ann Clark or Clarke.
I don't imagine they were born aboard a ship if they're 4 years apart. Perhaps an army barracks in Halifax? Was father William in the army, do you know?

Hello Neil,

Thank you for your interest!
My Joseph and Mary( brother x sister) were on
1841 census back in england b between 1825/29
I think that one is too old. My G g grandad is their
brother and he was b 1821 in dublin so it has to be some where between what i have said they could
not have stayed too long because another 2 children were b england1832/35.

I was just reading about the 3rd battalion, 95th Regiement of Foot. They had taken part in the Napoleonic Wars then in 1816 were stationed in Dublin. The 3rd battalion was disbanded in 1818 and the soldiers joined the 1st & 2nd, battalions.
6 service companies of the 1st battalion boarded the ships "Arab", "Speke" and "Joseph Green" in Belfast, July 28-30, 1825 for passage to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Could your family be a part of this?

Hello Margaret,

There is only a couple of yrs between them .
i put the extra yrs to cover if census were wrong.
The actual yrs they had on census was Mary b 1827 Joseph 1829. Their father was a labourer
in 1841 we have not found his birth yet but he was b Sedgley England (found his death) sedgley.
their mother was french .took 3yrs to find her death
it was under another name , one she had not used on census ( we should have known because her daughter was name Mary)never mind!!
thanks for your interest by the way!

Google, google, Flo.

From: The autobiography of Lieutenant-General Sir Harry Smith, baronet of Aliwal on the Sutlej, G.C.B..

SHORTLY after this, my Corps was ordered to embark at Belfast [30 July] for Nova Scotia on board three transports, the Arab, the [Speke85], and the Joseph Green. I had the command of two Companies and a half in the last ship. When we arrived on board, with the quantity of baggage, etc., the ship was in a wild-looking state. The Captain and the agent came to me and said, "We are ordered to go to sea to-morrow, but this is impossible from the state of the ship; it is of no consequence, if you would give us a certificate to this effect; the day after to-morrow will do quite as well." "The devil it will," says I, "when you are ordered. Have you everything belonging to the ship's stores on board?" "Everything." Johnny Kincaid was my subaltern, so I said, "Johnny, at daybreak in the morning turn out all hands, and prepare a certificate for my signature at eight o'clock if required." Eight o'clock arrived, and no man-of-war's decks were ever more ready for action–our baggage all stored below, our soldiers' arms and everything else arranged, and I told the Captain, "Now, you see, I need sign no certificate. We Riflemen obey orders and do not start difficulties." We were under way in no time. This Captain Lumsden was an excellent fellow; some years after he took Sir James Stirling out as Governor to Swan River and touched at the Cape, when I had an opportunity of returning some of his many acts of kindness.

I think I googled "army barracks halifax nova scotia 1825"
The first one I posted was titled "William Blonke- Rifle Bde-1816-1830"
The second one was "Harry Smith-Nova Scotia and Jamaica"
