No I cannot find Hannibal and Christiana Swales ni 1841. They had children in Yarm in the late 1830s, and other children in Stockton in the 1850s. They are in Thornaby in 1851, but I cannot find them at all in 1841.

Have you come across them in your work? I made a requset on this board for them in the census some time ago but nothing.

Thank you so much for your help! It is highly appreciated! I was please you attached Edward Stephenson to the Pattisons. Hannah Pattison was the daughter of Hannibal and Christiana (Stephenson) Swales, and she is my ancestor. To add to the mytery, she disappears between 1891 and 1901. In 1901 her husband James is a widow, but no sign of Hannah's death.

I have quite a few people in this branch of my tree who simply fall off the records - I get the impression that they were not fans of burocrocy!

I intent to order Edward Stephenson's death cert as he died in 1887 aged 70, a hawker, and apparently James Pattison was the informant.

Also, I am so glad that you found a connection with the Morrisons. I have come across a newspaper article from the Northern Echo, 18th February 1878:

At Stokesly Petty Sessions on Saturday, three men, named James Morrison, Edward Stephenson, and James Swales, potters, were charged with being concerned in a street disturbance at Stokesly on the 19th ult. A public-house quarrel, which led to a fight between two other potters, John Morrison and Mark Swales, resulted in Swales being knocked down and kicked until he became insensible, and on the friends of Swales interferring they were assailed by the supporters of Morrison and a disgraceful melee ensued ... The article goes on, and off course could relate to other members of the family - Edward Stephenson who was living in the Tent in 1841 and with the Pattisons in 1881 would be about 61 in 1878 and a little old for fighting perhaps ... I am thankful to you in that you have supplied a connection to the families.

I do not know much about the Stephenson family in the tents from 1841. Christiana, their sister as born in Pickering, Yorkshire in 1812, and her paretns were Edward and Mary Stephenson, although I can find no marriage, and any of the baptisms of the other children, with great certainty due to the fact this family appeared to have been travellers.

I was wondering therefore could you see if Edward and Mary Stephenson (the parents) were alive in 1841? 1851? You have been a great help and your work is much appreciated!

Could someone help me find my ancestors in 1841. I know they were living in Tents just out of Danby Village, Yorkshire. There was also a John Swales staying with the family in their tent.
