Cheers Rose i will bear that in mind as i know my grandfather lied about his age when he joined up in ww1.........GARY....

Either that or he lied to join the army. Something to consider if you're looking for his army records.

I notice his age isn't quite correct on the CWGC site. He was actually 23 when he died.

Gary was just thinking the same maybe he married the daughter of another Army man and not in the UK .Have you thought to get his Army records this may help

Visiting Information: Access to the cemetery is by security pass only and application for such a pass should be made through the Military Attache at the British Embassy in Cairo. This application should be made at least 10 working days in advance of the proposed visit as it can take some time for the pass to be issued. Location Information: Moascar War Cemetery is situated just off the main Ismailia-Cairo road, 10 kilometres by road from Ismailia. The cemetery is contained within an army camp, 3 kilometres along Treaty Road, and the cemetery is open from 07.30 to 14.30 Saturday to Thursday, excluding Public Holidays.
Historical Information: Moascar was the name given to the military camp near the town of Ismailia. The desert cemetery was started at Moascar by the military authorities for the burial of war casualties, mainly from the Canal Zone. After the war, further graves were moved into the cemetery from a number of burial grounds in the vicinity where permanent maintenance was not possible. The cemetery continued to be used, between the end of the war and the evacuation of Commonwealth forces in Egypt, for the burial of servicemen garrisoned in the area, their dependents and members of civilian organisations attached to the garrison. The cemetery now contains 475 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, 495 non war graves and 19 war graves of other nationalities.

did he have any children ?a birth would narrow it down a bit otherwise its a 12 year search ie 48 searches
hang on if he was born 1918 he wouldnt have married from 1929 cos he would only be 11!!!

FreeBMD doesn't cover the years that you need. You need to be looking at the full indexes, quarter by quarter until you find him.
