Is there anyway you can find a child born to a young teenager who had been sent to a convent to have the child. Then nothing is known of what happend to the child. The sex approx year born and name of convent is known.

Lesley,

You can do a search by surname and choose all those with the same maiden name if she was not married especially if you know the year and area. What year are you looking for and what is the sex of the baby? If it is Smith or Jones it will be much harder!

Best Wishes

The child would have been born in 1939 in Aighburth liverpool in a convent called kelton. It was a girl. The mother was called Louisa Houghton. She was sent there when she was 14 till she was 21.

Hi Lesley,

There are a number of female Broughton children born in 1939 with Mother's maiden name as Broughton and my georgraphy is shocking. One in Ikleston and one in Cleethorpes. Are they anywhere near Liverpool?

The convent is no longer there now do you think they will have records of children born there stored somewhere else. I suppose the child would be hard to contact.

Lesley,

My birth mother lived in Kelton for a few years with my Birth sisters in the 1960's think that records for adoptions there will now be held by Nugents (formerly the Catholic Adoption Society) .
Let me know if I can be of any further help to you.

Sheila

By the way is the name Broughton as you say in the heading or Houghton as you say in your first sentance ?

By the way Kelton was turned into a care home till 2006, when they the pensioners where turfed out, to make way surprise surprise for luxury apartments ,
May give you an indication of what I think of the place :O(
