I have a John Brett Born 1824 Sandwich Kent m Elizabeth 1843. I have the 1881 Census and he was a Gas Maker & Chimney Sweeper living Gas Works House, Ash, Kent. There are two children on it Sarah b1855 and Fanny b1858 I also know he had a daughter Harriet b1849. Is it possible please to check out the 1851 and maybe the 1861/71 |

Thanks Gwyn, much appreciated, actually I noticed that you had down Miles surname which would mean Johns wife would be Elizabeth Miles before she married. I have a marriage to Elizabeth Beachin in 1843 Strood rochester, maybe I have been lucky with the one you found with an Elizabeth as wife, what do you think |

I have just had a more thorough investigation into John Brett and noticed his mother was born Milton and father Newington Kent. They were married in 1825 Rochester Kent and it looks like John was born in Milton 1825 because every child after seemed to be. I noticed the marriage for a John and Elizabeth Beachin in Strood Rochester. Found a birth for Elizabeth in Sandwich and there was my mistake. Checked the 1881 Census and found both born Sandwich and added it up all wrong. |

If you know a child of the couple you are looking for then a birth cert would give mothers name including maiden name then you would know which family is the right one |

Thanks Janice, I have been buying quite a few lately so I might have to do that, if I could find the 1881 census might help but I can't. I notice what was put up there was the 1861 census not 1871 so I will have to see if somebody could possible check it out for me. |

the John Brett we are looking at now is John Brett living in Milton with wife Margaret. Cant see a marriage for them after 1851 but this is the daughter Emily birth ref (as per the 1861 census)which will give Margarets maiden name |
