Hi everyone,

I hope someone out there at this late hour can help me out!

I have George Smith (born abt 1856 in Strensall, Yorkshire, England) he married twice, firstly to Jane and then to Margaret H. ?

Jane appears in the 1881 & 1891 census and is reported to have been born abt 1860 in Coxwold, Yorkshire, England. The first child, Lillie was born in abt 1881 in Stockton, Durham, England, where George lived in the rest of the census records.

The only Jane I can find marrying a George Smith around 1880 in the area is Jane Ann Sedgwick...but I can't find any trace of her in earlier census records.

In 1901, George is married to Margaret H, (the census says it's Mary H. but on closer inspection, I think it reads Margaret) She was born abt 1874 in Norton, Durham, England.

Can someone help me sort out who Jane and Margaret really are?

I'm getting desperate!

Jim

The only way to be certain is to buy one each of the childrens birth certs to find the mothers maiden names.
