Juliet, keep in mind the information on the certificate is only as accurate as the person who provided it. (So, there could be errors.)

Unfortunately, the informant cannot alter any information asked. My dad passed away three years ago (in California) and when asked his place of birth, I was not allowed to mention his home town or province, they would only add "Canada." Very frustrating to a genealogist. :) Best of luck with your search.

Off to bed now...

Juliet

I would suggest you go onto the website Lisa and I have sent you and order Irenes death certificate from there, its bound to tell you more than it does on Ancestry, including her address if she died at home. If you have any problems accessing the website let me know and I will have another look for you. Let us know how you get on.

My story is that ...My mum was adopted at the age of 3 but kept distant contact with Irene through an auntie.Irene married Jack in London in 1952.Then they travelled the world.Settling in Florida with Jack(not sure what yr).My mum had a visit from the auntie in 1978 to say Irene had died at home in her sleep. Irene and Jack were "well off" so its doubtful that Irene went to work.My reason for the search is to find photo's and medical history for Irene. We know Irene had had Breast cancer and so unfortunatley has my mum.My mum is 70 next birthday and I plan to take her to Irene's resting place when "we" find it.
Thanks for your help.!!!!!!
Long may it continue ! x

This collection of records was digitized from microfiche provided by The Florida Department of Health, Office of Vital Statistics, P.O. Box 210, Jacksonville, Florida 32231-0042. It is important to use the information gathered from this index to obtain a copy of the original record, as original records usually contain more information than do their indexes. Information about how to order a copy of a death certificate is available on The Florida Department of Health website.

The sites I've seen are usually a little more "official looking", but I believe this is where you could order a copy of the certificate. (There are some independent sites that provide certificates, but they charge a higher fee than government agencies, so you definitely want to make sure you are ordering from the State of Florida, or Broward County.)

Do you know when your grandparents came to the states? Do you know your grandfather's occupation, please?

The Jack mentioned above applied for his SSN in New York.

So, Juliet, you are sure that your Irene was born 3-Nov-1919? That would be helpful, because it would most likely confirm that you've found Irene.

As I mentioned in my brief reply to your pm, I'm Canadian, so I'm not terribly knowledgeable with American information. However, seeing that Irene died in 1978 and there's no Social Security death information, makes me think that she didn't have a social security number. (In 1978, only those who worked in the States have to had to have a SSN. Now, it is required for all individuals.)

If you are fairly certain that you've found the correct Jack, you could order his death certificate. It should include his place of birth, name of informant, last residence, cause of death, etc. Actually, I guess you could order Irene's as well (just not sure how to go about doing that).

Thanks...Have sent Lisa J a pm but meant to add as thread sorry...

I was thinking if "we" found Irene's last known address that could tie her in with Jack ? and what about her SSN ? I know I have the correct Date of Birth and I know Jack was born 1904/05.
Thanks for your help.

Juliet, Lindylu is correct, make sure you do have the right person before assuming anything.

I found a website for some cemeteries in Broward County, but the Morris' are not listed (they are still transcribing records, however). Or, possibly they aren't buried in Broward County?

http://www.learnwebskills.com/browardcem/

In case you don't know, due to the weather conditions and lifestyle, a lot of Canadians and Americans move to Florida. Also, there are quite a few Canadians who live in Florida during the winter months (possibly Americans living on the East Coast may do the same?). So, perhaps your search shouldn't be centered on just Florida.

PS I just noticed Jack's Social Security Number was issued in New York. I believe that would mean that he lived there at one time.

You are very welcome Juliet - we do our best to oblige on this site :)! However, a word of warning, there are other Jack morris's in Broward, Florida which may be worth checking out. All younger than this one though. If you need any more help give me a shout.
