Hi,

Can anyone please help me find any info on William Henry ASHTON?

He married Mary Ann Rolf/e b:1817 Lawshall, Suffolk. I can't find a marriage or any record of him other than on his children's birth certificates. On them, it is stated that he is a journeyman painter, glazier and plumber (I understand a plumber was then a person who worked with lead i.e. windows):

William Roger Ashton b: Leeds 1844 (G G Grandfather)
Sarah Ann Ashton b: Southwark abt 1848
Henry John Ashton b: Bury St Edmunds, 1855

He died before 1866, as stated deceased on Mary Ann's death certificate...year and county unknown.

It has taken me three years to get this far with my "Ashton" family. Any offers of help, ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!

Yes, I have this one already, along with 1861. NO 1841. Ann passed in 1866. This side of my family has been a real challenger!

Thank you for looking...but Mary Ann died 18 Aug 1866, and William had already died according to her death certificate, so it can't be him.

I gather the name "Ashton" is very common up north, hense why I'm having a problem.

I haven't a clue from 1841 to before Aug 1866 which county he was in!

I checked the Suffolk Marriage index 1813 - 1837 and there are no Ashtons listed at all. Rolf is quite common especially around the Mildenhall area. In case you don't know Lawshall prounounced "Lor'shll"

I didn't know that...I am still trying to get my bearings with Suffolk. Is Lawshall in the Mildenhall area? Mary Ann Rolf (also known as ANN) parent's MAY have been George Rolf & Sarah Easton.

The Ashton's have been hard throughout the generations, as there has been so many disrepencies i.e lying about there ages etc. But I love a challange!!!

Thank you Vera

I have come accross this record and haven't ruled it out (birth year slightly out).

Any sign of a marriage between William Henry Ashton and Mary Ann Rolf in Suffolk?

A Pallots marriage was found for a William Ashton and Ann Rolf in Poplar 1836.

Thank you very much for looking, SuffolkSue.
Is that for SUFFOLK?
A bit of a mind boggler this one, isn't it?

Susan

Susan Report 24 Jun 2008 19:46

I originally put I could find the Ashton/Rolf marriage on Pallots in Poplar, but did find it afterwards. I think it might be a good bet, maybe you can get a look up in the parish records

Samantha

Samantha Report 24 Jun 2008 19:59

I will do, thank very much.

Would the parish give other details, do you know?
